Chery Confirms iCar Brand Is Coming to Australia, Rebranded as 'iCAUR'

Update:

Speaking to CarSauce, Mr Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International, confirmed that iCAUR is exploring range-extender (REEV) powertrains for future models with genuine off-road capability. He stated that development is already underway, with plans to introduce REEV options to better suit markets and customers demanding greater versatility beyond pure battery-electric vehicles.

Speaking to CarSauce, a spokesperson for Chery has confirmed that its new electric vehicle brand 'iCar' is planned for an Australian launch. However, no specific time frame or model lineup has been confirmed at this stage.

In China, the brand operates under the name 'iCar', but for international markets - including Australia - it will adopt the name 'iCAUR' due to a trademark dispute. The brand is expected to focus on electric vehicles (EVs) targeting urban and adventure-focused buyers.

Currently, the iCar brand offers three models in its domestic market: the iCar 03, iCar 03T, and iCar V23.

iCar 03

The iCar 03 is a compact electric SUV that first launched in 2023. It has already been rebadged for various markets, including Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore, under names like the Jaecoo 6 EV and Chery J6. Depending on the region, it is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive and multiple battery options, including a 69.7kWh pack in the AWD version. A more affordable entry-level 2WD variant was introduced in Thailand in early 2025.

iCar 03T

Released in 2024, the iCar 03T is a performance-oriented update of the standard 03. It features enhanced mechanicals, wider bodywork, and additional off-road-focused equipment, designed to appeal to buyers looking for more a rugged option without stepping up to larger, more expensive EVs.

iCar V23

The V23 is the brand’s newest and most distinctive model with retro styling, positioned as a compact, four-seater electric SUV with both RWD and AWD variants.
Prices in China start from around RMB 99,800 (approximately $13,700 USD).

Depending on the model, range figures are claimed at up to 501 kilometres (CLTC), and the V23 offers fast-charging capability, a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

iCar recorded over 31,000 pre-orders for the V23 within hours of its launch, highlighting strong interest in the brand’s new direction.

It remains unclear which models from iCar’s existing range will be introduced in Australia under the iCAUR badge, but further announcements are expected in the near future.
