CarSauce Buy 2.0 is out now.

Australian pricing has been confirmed for the BYD ATTO 1 four-seat electric hatchback, with prices starting from $23,990 before on-road costs.

This officially makes it the cheapest new electric car on sale in Australia, a title it claims from BYD’s own Dolphin Essential, priced at $29,990 before on-road costs.

Measuring 3,990mm long, 1,720mm wide, and 1,590mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,500mm, the ATTO 1 is similarly sized to the likes of the Toyota Yaris, Mazda 2, and MG3

Two variants make up the BYD ATTO 1 range: the entry-level Essential model and the range-topping Premium variant.

The ATTO 1 Essential powers its front wheels with a 65kW and 175Nm electric motor, sourcing electricity from a 30kWh Blade Battery. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 11.1 seconds and has a WLTP driving range of 220km.

It supports 11kW AC charging and 65kW DC fast charging, the latter allowing 10 to 80 per cent charges to be completed in 30 minutes, and 30 to 100 per cent charges in 25 minutes. It also supports vehicle-to-load functionality.

Standard exterior features include 15-inch steel wheels, halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights, rear light bar, and high-mounted brake light, and electrically adjustable and heated mirrors.

Inside, the Essential gets a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, and four-way manually adjustable front seats.

Standard safety features include, but are not limited to, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive and Intelligent Cruise Control, front, front side and curtain airbags, rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera.

The Premium variant – priced at $27,990 before on-roads – increases the motor output to 115kW and 220Nm, and boosts the Blade battery capacity to 43.2kWh.

It accelerates quicker than the entry-level variant, completing the 0-100km/h run in 9.1 seconds, and it has a further WLTP driving range of 310km. Charging times are also faster in the Premium variant with 85kW DC charging, allowing 30 to 100 per cent charges to be completed in just 22 minutes.

Outside, the Premium model grade gains larger 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a rain-sensing wiper, electrically retracting mirrors, and rear door privacy glass.

Interior additions include wireless phone charging, heated front seats, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way electrically adjustable passenger’s seat, and a one-touch up and down driver’s window control with anti-pinch.

A 360-degree camera is the only safety feature addition the Premium variant receives over the Essential model.

Australian arrivals for the BYD ATTO 1 are set for December.
