GWM Australia has launched the updated H6GT Hi4 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), featuring a price reduction and mechanical enhancements.
The new model arrives with a driveaway price of $52,990, which is a $3,000 decrease compared to the previous variant's launch price.
While the coupe-SUV exterior remains largely unchanged, the vehicle debuts GWM’s Hi4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

This new powertrain combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors to produce 321kW and 642Nm.
The 0–100km/h acceleration time has improved to 4.6 seconds, down from the previous model's 4.9-second claim.
A 35.43kWh battery continues to provide an electric-only driving range of up to 183km under NEDC testing.

The interior has undergone a significant redesign to address previous criticisms regarding the infotainment system.
A larger 14.6-inch HD touchscreen replaces the old 12.3-inch unit and runs the new Coffee OS interface.
This system introduces wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a feature that was previously restricted to a wired connection.

The centre console has been simplified by moving the gear selector to the steering column.
This layout change provides more storage space and a dedicated wireless phone charging pad.
Suede-appointed seats with ‘GT’ embossing remain a standard feature in the cabin.

GWM reports that electrified variants now make up 51.5% of total H6GT sales in Australia.
The H6GT PHEV currently holds a 3.3% share of the local plug-in hybrid segment.
The brand was the second-largest seller of PHEVs in the country during March 2026.

Despite the focus on the hybrid, the petrol-only H6GT variant will continue to be sold alongside the new Hi4 model.
The H6GT PHEV is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with the battery covered for eight years or 160,000km.

FAQ
How far can the 2026 H6GT PHEV drive on electric power alone?
The H6GT PHEV features a 35.43kWh battery providing an electric-only range of up to 183km (NEDC). This is significantly higher than many competitors, allowing most Australian drivers to complete their daily commute without using any petrol.
How long does it take to charge the H6GT PHEV battery?
Using a standard 6.6kW AC home wallbox, a full charge from 0 to 100% takes approximately 6 hours. For faster turnarounds, the vehicle supports DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in roughly 26 minutes.
How fast is the 2026 H6GT PHEV compared to the previous model?
The 2026 update has improved its 0–100km/h sprint time to 4.6 seconds, down from 4.9 seconds. This performance is delivered via the new Hi4 all-wheel-drive system which better manages the 321kW of combined power.
Does the new model finally have wireless Apple CarPlay?
Yes. One of the biggest upgrades in the 2026 model is the integration of Coffee OS, which enables wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the new 14.6-inch high-definition touchscreen.
What is the warranty coverage for the car and battery?
GWM provides a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the vehicle. The high-voltage battery pack is covered by a separate eight-year or 160,000km warranty (whichever comes first).
Is the boot space impacted by the battery or the "Coupe" design?
The H6GT offers 392 litres of boot space. While smaller than the standard H6 SUV due to the sloping "GT" roofline and the PHEV battery placement, it remains practical for a family of four, featuring a hands-free electric tailgate for easier loading.
