GWM has launched the Tank 500 Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid in Australia, confirming a starting price of $79,990 drive-away. A limited-time early-bird offer reduces the price to $77,990.

The Hi4-T becomes the new flagship of the Tank 500 range, joining the existing Lux and Ultra petrol grades.

The Tank 500 Hi4-T is the latest in GWM’s expanding electrified lineup, which already includes plug-in hybrid versions of the Haval H6 and Jolion.

It becomes the second model to feature the brand’s Hi4-T hybrid technology after the Cannon Alpha ute, combining dual motors with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and full-time 4WD.

The powertrain pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors and a 37.1kWh battery.

Total system outputs are 300kW and 750Nm, with a braked towing capacity of 3,000kg.

According to GWM, the Hi4-T can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 6.9 seconds and consume 2.1L/100km on the NEDC cycle.

The battery enables up to 120km of electric-only range and supports Vehicle-to-Load functionality for 6kW of external power.

Off-road hardware includes a mechanical 4WD system, low-range gearing, triple locking differentials, and an 800mm wading depth.

These features are combined with unchanged ground clearance and approach, breakover, and departure angles from the petrol models.

Inside, the Tank 500 Hi4-T features a 14.6-inch infotainment display, Infinity audio system, panoramic sunroof, and Nappa leather-accented seating with heating, cooling, and massage functions.

A two-tone Blue/Cream interior option is available exclusively with Marble White and Crystal Black exterior finishes.

The SUV is offered in four colours: Onyx Silver, Crystal Black, Marble White, and Dune Gold. Metallic paint is available at additional cost.

The Tank 500 Hi4-T is covered by GWM Care 777, which includes a seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, seven years of roadside assistance, and capped price servicing.
