2025 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid Price and Specs

The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid) has been detailed for Australia, with the ute being one of the most anticipated launches of the year.

Ford says the Ranger PHEV will launch in mid-2025, with the vehicle to be priced from  $71,990 before on-road costs.

Sourced from South Africa – rather than Thailand, as with the rest of the range – the Ranger PHEV mates an electric motor with a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine to produce a combined 207kW and 697Nm.

Ford says the Ranger PHEV has an electric driving range of 48 kilometres on a single charge.

Unlike other plug-in hybrid vehicles that use the electric motors to power the wheels and rely on the petrol motor as a generator, the Ranger instead allows the petrol engine to drive the wheels, while the electric motor is sandwiched between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.

This set-up allows the vehicle to take advantage of the Ranger’s low-range gearbox and rear locking differential in off-road conditions.

The drive can select from four drive modes, EV Now to switch to pure electric driving, EV Later to use the petrol engine and save battery power, EV Charge to top up the battery using the petrol engine, and Auto EV – which allows the vehicle to find the most efficient way forward.

The ute also features Ford’s Pro Power Onboard, which adds two household plugs in the tub, along with single, more powerful socket in the cabin – allowing owners to run power tools onthe work site without fear of running out of battery power for the drive home.

Ford says the Ranger PHEV has the best towing capability of any plug-in hybrid dual-cab ute on sale currently, with the ability to tow up to 3500kg (braked), with a total payload capacity of 973kg in the XLT – dropping to 808kg for the range-topping Stormtrak.

All models come with a 12-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen with DAB+ digital radio, reversing camera, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry and start.
