2024 MG 3 Price and Specs: Significant Updates Include Hybrid Option

The 2024 model of the MG 3 has been introduced in Australia, featuring a marked increase in price and the addition of a hybrid powertrain.

The base model's price has risen from the previous $18,990 drive-away to $23,990 before on-road costs, reaching approximately $26,000 drive-away.

This adjustment in pricing signifies the disappearance of new cars under $20,000 drive-away in Australia, a segment that the MG 3 previously occupied.

Before the pandemic, this model was priced as low as $15,990 drive-away.

The updated MG 3 includes enhancements such as a larger, more robust body, an upgraded interior, and a suite of active safety features, previously unavailable.

This positions the vehicle in a similar category to competitors like the recently updated Toyota Yaris.

The introduction of a hybrid model in the MG 3 lineup, priced at $29,990 plus on-road costs (over $30,000 drive-away), marks a new venture for the model.

This hybrid system pairs a 75kW petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor for a combined output of 155kW.

The petrol model reports a fuel efficiency of 6.0L/100km, while the hybrid achieves 4.3L/100km, necessitating premium unleaded petrol.

New features include 16-inch alloy wheels and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

In terms of safety, the new MG 3 model is equipped with a full suite of advanced safety technologies, enhancing its safety profile compared to its predecessor.

Despite changes in the automotive market and price escalations, the MG 3 continues to maintain a strong presence in the Australian light car segment.

The new hybrid model is priced competitively against similar models in its category, including the Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

With the change from a national to a state-based pricing system, the new MG 3's cost will vary depending on regional fees.

This model is expected to be available in showrooms shortly, reflecting the ongoing updates and adaptations in the automotive market.

Should Chinese Cars Be Banned in Australia?

Banning Chinese cars in Australia makes no sense. With no local car industry to protect, tariffs would only hurt consumers and limit choice.
