Ford Australia has announced significant updates to its Ranger and Everest models, set to improve towing capabilities and add new standard features. The updates are geared towards enhancing the driving experience for Australian families.

The 2024 Ranger and Everest models will feature the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist, aimed at simplifying the task of reversing with a trailer. This technology, which first appeared in the F-150 in 2023, allows drivers to 'steer the trailer' for more intuitive control. According to Ford's advanced driver assist systems engineer, Zack McIntyre, this system makes reversing with a trailer more manageable, even for those experienced in towing.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist will be a standard feature on specific Ranger models including the Wildtrak, Platinum, and Raptor. It will be available as an optional extra in the Touring Pack for the 4X4 XLT and Sport pickup variants. The Everest model will also offer this feature in its Touring Pack for 4WD Trend and 4WD Sport vehicles.

In addition to Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Ford has enhanced the towing capabilities of the Ranger and Everest. These enhancements include features like a reversing camera with hitch view, trailer light check, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and an integrated brake controller. The system is activated by a trailer icon on the drive mode selector, using a special sticker on the draw bar to track the trailer's angle.

Ford Australia is also improving its Ranger variants with new standard features. The Ranger XL will now come with heavy-duty suspension as a standard feature, designed for those carrying significant loads. The Ranger XLS is being upgraded to include the Tech and Towing Packs as standard features from MY24.5, adding numerous technical and comfort upgrades.

The Flexible Rack System, introduced on the Ford Ranger Platinum and Wildtrak X special edition, will now be available on the Ranger Sport and Wildtrak models as an option. This system adds versatility to the vehicle's storage and carrying capacity.

Ford Australia has made adjustments to the Everest and Ranger line-ups to align with Australian buying habits. For Ranger, the XL Bi-Turbo dual-cab cab-chassis 4X2, XLS Bi-Turbo dual-cab pick-up 4X2, and XL Bi-Turbo super-cab pick-up 4X2 will no longer be available to order, while the Wildtrak X special edition will end its production run with MY24. The Everest Trend RWD will also no longer be available.

This includes standardizing previously optional features and discontinuing certain variants in response to customer preferences. The updated MY24.5 Ford Ranger and Everest range will begin production in March 2024.
