Chery Australia has officially unveiled the specifications for its first all-electric model, the Omoda E5, on 12th August 2024. The Omoda E5 marks Chery's entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market in Australia, broadening the company’s portfolio with two distinct variants, BX and EX, each offering a suite of features aimed at appealing to a wide range of consumers.

The Omoda E5 is equipped with a single electric motor that delivers 150kW of power and 340Nm of torque. This powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The E5's driving range is rated at up to 430km on the WLTP cycle, which positions it as a viable option for both urban and longer-distance driving. This range is achieved with an energy consumption rate of 155Wh/km, reflecting the vehicle's efficiency.

The BX variant, the entry-level option, includes a comprehensive set of features such as dual 12.3-inch screens, which serve as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The BX also comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a 50W wireless phone charger. The EX variant builds upon this foundation, adding features like a power tailgate, an upgraded 8-speaker Sony sound system, heated front and rear seats, and a synthetic leather interior with ambient lighting. Additionally, the EX offers a 360-degree camera system and a powered sunroof, enhancing the vehicle's convenience and comfort features.

Both variants of the Omoda E5 are compatible with DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes. The vehicle is also equipped with a towing capacity of 750kg, which may appeal to those needing to tow small trailers or other light loads.

Chery Australia's CEO, Lewis Lu, highlighted the company's strategic direction with the launch of the Omoda E5, stating, "We're thrilled to introduce our first electric vehicle, a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability. We're proud to offer a vehicle that not only delivers outstanding performance and range but also helps reduce our carbon footprint. This launch is a significant milestone in our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future."

Safety features in the Omoda E5 are comprehensive, including 7 airbags that provide coverage for the driver, passenger, center, front side, and side curtain areas. The vehicle also incorporates an extensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes 18 intelligent driving assist functions. These systems feature adaptive cruise control (ACC), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assistance (LKA), and more. Notably, the E5 includes a full-size spare wheel, a feature that is increasingly rare in modern vehicles, providing added security for drivers.

The Omoda E5 is available in five color options: Titan Green, Lunar White, Saturn Silver, Space Black, and Martian Red. Customers choosing the EX model can further personalize their vehicle with the option of a black roof on Titan Green and Lunar White models. The vehicle's exterior design includes a pronounced grille that houses the CCS2 charging port, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, twin rear spoilers, and LED head and tail lights, contributing to its modern aesthetic.

The battery of the Omoda E5 is covered by an 8-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, which provides peace of mind for potential buyers. In addition to this, the vehicle itself is backed by a 7-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, 7-year capped price servicing, and up to 7 years of roadside assistance, ensuring long-term support for owners.

The Omoda E5 is set to join Chery's existing lineup, which includes the petrol-powered Omoda 5, TIGGO 7 Pro, and TIGGO 8 Pro Max, in local showrooms this September. Pricing details are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle's official launch date. Consumers interested in the Omoda E5 can pre-order through Chery Australia's website, allowing them to secure their model ahead of its arrival in showrooms.
