2024 BYD Sealion 6 Price and Specs: Affordable Plug-in Hybrid SUV Debuts

BYD has announced the pricing and specifications for its 2024 Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) mid-size SUV.

The Sealion 6 starts at $48,990 before on-road costs and is positioned to compete with the Toyota RAV4 and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The Sealion 6 is available in two models: Dynamic and Premium. The Dynamic model is priced at $48,990, while the Premium model, which includes all-wheel drive, is priced at $52,990.

This is BYD Australia's first hybrid model, following the electric Atto 3 SUV, Dolphin hatchback, and Seal sedan.

The Sealion 6's pricing is lower than the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which starts at $57,290, but higher than the MG HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid, starting at $43,690.

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, priced at $42,460, also competes in this segment, although it does not have plug-in capability.

The Sealion 6 Dynamic features a 1.5-liter non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and a single electric motor, producing a combined 160kW/300Nm.

The Premium model adds a turbocharger and a second electric motor, providing a total output of 238kW/550Nm and all-wheel drive.

BYD claims that the Dynamic model can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds, while the Premium model can achieve this in 5.9 seconds.

Both models have an 18.3kWh battery, offering electric-only driving ranges of 92km for the Dynamic and 81km for the Premium, based on the NEDC standard.

The Sealion 6 includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing the car's battery to power external devices.

Fuel consumption is reported to be 1.1 liters per 100km for the Dynamic and 1.4 liters per 100km for the Premium, also based on the NEDC standard.

Standard features for both variants include 19-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, keyless entry and start, two wireless smartphone chargers, synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and LED exterior lighting.

The Premium model also includes a head-up display.

The Sealion 6 is equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as built-in satellite navigation, digital radio, and a voice assistant.

Safety features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, front and rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, exit warning, and seven airbags.
